4th/5th/6th Grade: Spider Watercolor

The 4th/5th/6th grade has been busy this last month making a paper mache solar system.  They have been studying the solar system in class so we collaborated on this assignment.  As soon as we get that hung up in Mrs. Nelson's room I will post a picture.  It turned out pretty cool.

This week we were finally able to move on to a new project.  We learned about watercolor and several techniques we can do with it.  They used crayon/oil pastels to draw their spider web and spider.  The crayon resists the watercolor and allows us still to see the drawing.  They chose between making a cool or warm color watercolor.  They then practiced blending our colors to make a tie dye affect.  Once they were done water coloring and the paint was still wet we added salt on top.  Once the salt is dry you brush it off.  The salt created some neat effects on the watercolor to create an interesting painting.  I thought these turned out pretty neat!  They will be hung outside the gym for a bit for everyone to see.
