Art 1- Project One: Word Shadow Mapping

This year has been off to a great start here at Augusta Schools.  Students in art have been busy learning basic art techniques.  The high school is now finishing up their final project of their value unit. After several drawing exercises the High School has just finished two drawing projects.  The first one was called Word Shadow Mapping.  They created a word out of white paper and set it up on another white piece of paper.  If set in the sunlight it creates shadows over the word.  They then drew the shadows of their word sculpture.  This project helps students understand value and how to make smooth transitions.   I was pretty impressed with the results of this project!

The word Rain and Imagine below are examples of the paper words they created as a reference for their drawing.
